John Hill was an 18th-century English botanist who published a number of botanical works including an important family medical book entitled ‘The Family Herbal’. Seeing reprints for nearly a century after its first edition, this work is filled with direction on growing plants and vegetables, their medical properties, preservation of roots, leaves, seeds, and flowers, recipes for distillation and medical syrups, and much more. And while the contents of this work are highly interesting, the most desirable aspect of this work is the abundance of beautiful, full-page color engravings throughout.
