Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám is the title that Edward FitzGerald gave to his 1859 translation from Persian to English of a selection of quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam, dubbed "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia".
Omar Khayyam was an Islamic scholar who was a poet as well as a mathematician and astronomer. He compiled astronomical tables and contributed to calendar reform and discovered a geometrical method of solving cubic equations by intersecting a parabola with a circle.
